Background of the Study

Women’s electoral success remains a challenge in many parts of Nigeria, despite constitutional guarantees of gender equality and the increasing number of women contesting for political office. In Keffi LGA, Nasarawa State, women have made strides in engaging with the political process, but their success at the polls is often impeded by a variety of socio-cultural, economic, and political factors. Understanding these barriers is crucial for developing strategies that can increase women’s political success in the region.

This study will assess the key factors affecting women’s electoral success in Keffi LGA, including societal attitudes toward female candidates, the influence of political party structures, access to campaign financing, and the role of media in shaping voter perceptions of female candidates. By exploring these factors, the study will provide recommendations for improving the electoral outcomes for women in Keffi.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the increasing participation of women in politics, electoral success remains elusive for many female candidates, particularly in local elections. In Keffi LGA, while women have the potential to succeed politically, their campaigns are often hindered by deeply rooted gender biases, limited access to resources, and exclusion from political decision-making spaces.
